Vandi Departs Ekiti Queens FC, Joins Ekiti United FC
A new era has officially begun for Ekiti United FC following the appointment of experienced football tactician Jacob Vandi as the club’s new Head Coach, just hours after his departure from sister club, Ekiti Queens FC, was officially announced.
The swift transition marks a strategic move by the Ekiti State Office of Sports Development as preparations intensify for the 2026/2027 football season.
Earlier on Monday, Ekiti Queens FC confirmed the end of Vandi’s two-year spell with the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) side, thanking him for his professionalism, dedication and commitment to the growth of the Baoress Babes.
Vandi leaves Ekiti Queens with an impressive record. Taking charge of a team that had narrowly escaped relegation before his arrival, he transformed the club into a more competitive force, guiding them to a fifth-place finish in his debut season before improving to fourth place in the just-concluded campaign. His tenure also ensured the club comfortably maintained its NWFL Premiership status.
Later in the day, the Ekiti State Office of Sports Development, through the Technical Advisor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba, announced Vandi as the new man to lead Ekiti United FC.
The appointment reflects the state’s determination to strengthen its male football project with a coach whose résumé combines domestic success, player development and international playing experience.
Beyond his achievements with Ekiti Queens, Vandi previously served as Technical Adviser of Adamawa Queens between 2019 and 2024, where he developed several players who progressed to national team recognition. He also worked with Adamawa United as Technical Adviser and Assistant Coach, while his playing career took him across Oman, Egypt, Sudan and Nigeria.
The CAF C Licence holder is also a recipient of the Nigerian Women Premier League Coach of the Season Award and possesses advanced coaching certifications in performance analysis and coaching psychology.
Following the announcement by the Sports Development Office, Ekiti United FC officially welcomed the coach in a statement issued by the club’s Media Manager, Blessing Akinyemi, signalling the beginning of what many supporters hope will be a transformative chapter.
The appointment has attracted widespread praise from football stakeholders, supporters and football organisations, many describing it as a bold and strategic decision capable of repositioning Ekiti United in its quest for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
While excitement continues to build around Vandi’s arrival at Ekiti United, attention has also shifted to Ekiti Queens, with fans eagerly awaiting the announcement of the club’s next head coach.
Both Ekiti United FC and Ekiti Queens FC have already fixed Wednesday, July 1, as the official resumption date ahead of preparations for the new season, setting the stage for what promises to be another defining campaign for football in Ekiti State.
