Sabo Abu-Okala Replaces Vandi at Ekiti Queens FC as New Era Begins for Baoress Babes
The Ekiti State Office of Sports Development has turned to one of Nigeria’s experienced women’s football tacticians, appointing Sabo Abu Okala as the new Head Coach of Ekiti Queens FC following the departure of Jacob Vandi.
Okala, who guided Confluence Queens to the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six, takes over the reins of the Baoress Babes ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign with the responsibility of building on the steady progress recorded by the club in recent seasons.
His appointment marks the latest coaching reshuffle in Ekiti football, coming barely a day after Vandi, who spent two seasons with Ekiti Queens, was named Head Coach of Ekiti United FC.
Beyond his achievement with Confluence Queens, Okala brings years of experience from both the men’s and women’s game. The former professional footballer featured for Sheraton FC, Water Resources FC, FCDA FC, BCC Lions, Niger Tornadoes, Al Wakrah Sports Club of Qatar and Gabros FC before moving into coaching.
His managerial journey has taken him through Tiyu Academy, Kogi United Feeders, Fosac Academy, Honey Badgers and Naija Ratels FC, earning a reputation as a coach committed to player development and team building.
During his time with Kogi United Feeders, Okala’s work in nurturing young players earned him recognition from the club’s management, which sponsored him to the National Institute for Sports (NIS) for further coaching education in acknowledgement of his outstanding performance with the feeder side.
The experienced tactician also holds UEFA Open Fun Football coaching certification, adding to a coaching profile shaped by continuous professional development and practical experience across different levels of Nigerian football.
Announcing the appointment, the Technical Advisor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba, expressed confidence that Okala’s wealth of experience, technical knowledge and player development philosophy will strengthen Ekiti Queens FC as the club prepares for another Nigeria Women Football League season.
With both Ekiti Queens FC and Ekiti United FC set to resume pre-season activities, attention will now shift to how quickly Coach Okala can imprint his philosophy on the Baoress Babes as supporters look forward to another competitive NWFL campaign.
