Ekiti SWAN to Mark World Sports Journalists Day with Friendly Table Tennis Clash Against NUJ
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ekiti State Chapter, will commemorate the 2026 World Sports Journalists Day with a friendly table tennis match against the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council.
Celebrated annually on July 2, World Sports Journalists Day honours the dedication, professionalism and invaluable contributions of sports journalists to the growth of sports across the world. The day also serves as an opportunity to recognise the role of the media in promoting fair play, celebrating sporting excellence, preserving sporting history and amplifying the achievements of athletes, coaches and sports administrators.
As part of this year’s celebration, SWAN Ekiti has organised the friendly encounter to reinforce the spirit of unity, camaraderie and healthy competition among media professionals.
The exhibition match is scheduled to hold on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the NUJ Secretariat, Ado-Ekiti, with kick-off at 12:00 noon. Both SWAN and NUJ will field teams of 10 players in what promises to be an exciting contest.
Beyond the competition, the event underscores the importance of collaboration within the journalism profession while highlighting the role of sports as a unifying force.
Sports enthusiasts, stakeholders, media practitioners and members of the public are invited to witness the event as Ekiti joins the global celebration of World Sports Journalists Day, a day dedicated to recognising the men and women whose reporting continues to shape the narrative of sports and inspire generations.
