Ekiti United FC Defeat Stormers SC to Seal Top-Three Finish

Ekiti United FC delivered when it mattered most, securing a 2–0 victory over Stormers SC at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, to confirm a top-three finish in the 2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

Ekiti United approached the contest with urgency, aware of what was at stake, and imposed themselves early in the game. Their attacking intent eventually paid off in the 56th minute when Isah Majeeb broke the deadlock to give the visitors a deserved lead. Maintaining composure and structure, Ekiti United continued to control proceedings before Damilola Adeyeye sealed the victory with a second goal in the 78th minute, putting the result beyond doubt.

The result not only sealed their position among the top sides but also marked a significant milestone—their first away win of the campaign. It was a fitting way to round off a season defined by dominance at home, where the Ekiti outfit recorded a perfect run, winning all nine of their home fixtures.

With the victory, Ekiti United closed the season on 30 points with a +4 goal difference, while Stormers SC settled for fourth place on 26 points with a neutral goal margin.

The performance drew admiration from supporters, who praised the team’s consistency and resilience throughout the season, particularly their ability to finish strongly under pressure.

In a statement released by the club’s management and signed by the Team Secretary, Bolu Idowu, appreciation was extended to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his continued support, as well as to Dr. Olusola Osetoba for her leadership and guidance. The club also acknowledged the unwavering backing of its supporters throughout the campaign.

Dr. Olusola Osetoba congratulated the team on the victory, describing their campaign as disciplined and determined, with a strong finish that reflects the collective effort behind the squad.

The achievement marks a remarkable turnaround for Ekiti United, who only returned to the NNL this season after relegation to the NLO in 2024—making their top-three finish a statement of intent and a clear sign of progress.
