Ekiti Students Join Team Nigeria for Africa Schools Football Championship
Ekiti State’s rising football talents are on continental duty as four students from Ekiti were selected to represent Nigeria at the 2025 CAF Schools Football Championship zonal qualifiers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The qualifiers, organized under the WAFU B zone, will run through the week in the Burkinabe capital. Nigeria will compete in the male category only, and has been drawn in Group B alongside Cote d’Ivoire and Benin Republic. Hosts Burkina Faso, Ghana and Niger Republic form Group A.
Nigeria’s opening match is against Cote d’Ivoire on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Stade in Ouagadougou, followed by a second group game against Benin Republic on Tuesday at 9 a.m. The semifinals will be played on Wednesday, with the third-place match and final scheduled for Thursday.
The Nigerian squad comprises 19 players selected from schools that qualified through the national competition held in Abuja two months ago. Ekiti State accounts for four of those players — Ayomide Adeleke (midfielder), Marcus Adeyanju (forward), Abdulrazzaq Mufutau (Forward), and Tobiloba Adedeji (Defender). Their inclusion reinforces the steady rise of grassroots football development under the Ekiti State Sports Development Programme.
Ekiti’s presence on the national roster marks another milestone in the state’s growing investment in youth football and school sports, reflecting structured talent development driven by the Ekiti State Sports Development Office.
