Ekiti Para-Athletes’ Feats Inspire Others as Hon. Akin Rotimi Plans Para-Athletics Competition‎‎

Hon. Akin Rotimi, member representing Oye and Ikole federal constituency, has urged persons with disabilities to draw strength from the exploits of Ekiti para-athletes who claimed medals at the National Youth Games in Asaba and the National Sports Festival in Ogun.

‎‎Rotimi, chairman of the Ekiti Para-Sports Association, said the athletes’ gold, silver and bronze finishes are not just victories for the state but a rallying point to show that disability does not mean inability.

Addressing the gathering in Oye-Ekiti, he told physically challenged persons present that “there is ability in disability” and encouraged them to set their sights on big goals.‎‎

To reinforce that vision, the lawmaker unveiled plans to stage a para-athletics competition later this year within his constituency, describing it as a platform to discover fresh talents and widen opportunities for inclusive sports.

‎‎Technical Advisor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba, praised Rotimi for embracing his role with passion and commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for making sports a frontline agenda in the state. She noted that the para-athletes have consistently justified the trust placed in them with outstanding performances.‎‎

The para-athletes, in turn, expressed gratitude for the support given to them by Governor Oyebanji, Hon. Rotimi, and Dr. Osetoba, saying the encouragement has fueled their drive to achieve more.‎‎

The empowerment event also featured the donation of new wheelchairs, financial support, and an awareness session on disability rights, urging participants to defend their dignity anywhere they find themselves.‎‎

For Ekiti’s para-athletes, it seems the finish line is only the start — and with new competitions on the horizon, the race for greater glory is just beginning.

Stay SPORTIVE for every Ekiti State sport stride.‎
