AJAYI ELEBIRE BASKETBALL CAMP DEBUTS IN EKITI
The Ajayi Elebire Basketball Camp, a talent discovery tournament that have previous editions held in Lagos, is set to debut in Ekiti State, a move organizers say was inspired by the remarkable sports development achieved under Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s leadership.
Organized by Olalekan Ajayi, an indigene of Efon Alaye in Ekiti State, the camp will draw young basketball talents from across Africa to Ekiti, offering outstanding players the chance to earn scholarships and pursue professional careers in the United States. The tournament, hosted through the Ajayi Elebire Foundation in memory of Ajayi’s late father, will fully cater to players’ accommodation, feeding, and other camp essentials during the camping period which is to hold between 13th to 16th July, 2025.
Speaking during his visit to the office of Dr. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor on Sports Development to the Ekiti State Governor, Ajayi confirmed that the decision to host the tournament in Ekiti was driven by the visible transformation in the state’s sports infrastructure. “What Governor Oyebanji has done in Ekiti’s sports sector over the past two years gave us confidence that the state is now capable of hosting an international-standard event,” Ajayi said.
He pointed to the international standard basketball upright donated by Governor Oyebanji as a symbol of the state’s readiness. He also commended the enabling environment created by the Ekiti State Sports Development Office under the leadership of Dr. Olusola Osetoba.“This is a new chapter for sports in Ekiti,” Ajayi noted. “Sponsors like us now see the state as a worthy stage for major tournaments.”Ajayi called on Ekiti indigenes and corporate organizations to support the state’s sports growth, emphasizing that sports can create jobs, engage youths, and help build safer communities.
