Preparations Gather Pace for Ekiti Kiddies Summer Sports
The countdown to the Kiddies Summer Sports 2026 is gathering momentum as organisers put final arrangements in place for a two-day sporting funfair designed to give children an opportunity to play, explore and discover their interests in sports.
The event is scheduled for August 17 and 18 at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with children under 15 expected to participate in a mix of sporting, recreational and entertainment activities.
The initiative is being organised by the Ekiti State Government under Governor Biodun Oyebanji, through the Office of Sports Development led by the Technical Advisor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba.
With the event only days away, the organising committee said necessary logistics are being put in place to make the two-day programme enjoyable and memorable for the children, while urging parents and guardians to make their wards available.
The event will combine sports with a range of fun activities, including a bouncing castle and mascots, alongside other recreational attractions designed to keep the children engaged throughout the programme.
The sporting activities will include football, athletics, 100m, 200m, 400m, high jump, long jump, table tennis, darts, fill-in-the-bottle race, sack race and egg race. Children will also participate in the Coke-Sprite-Fanta game, ball and basket games and other entertainment activities.
Organisers stressed that the Kiddies Summer Sports is not a conventional competition and that participants are not expected to represent schools, clubs or teams.
Instead, the children will participate as individuals, with the emphasis on fun, participation, recreation, exposure and friendship. The committee said the programme is intended to give children positive experiences around sports and encourage them to develop an interest in sporting activities.
The organisers are also preparing gift items and other surprises for participants, adding another incentive for children to take part.
Parents and guardians across Ekiti are therefore encouraged to make the most of the long vacation by bringing their children to the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium for two days of sport, games, entertainment and discovery.
For the organisers, the goal goes beyond a two-day event: it is about helping children fall in love with sports.
