Ekiti’s Phebe Oluwalade Shines as Nigeria Clinches IHF U-18 Africa Women’s Trophy

Nigeria’s U-18 Women’s Handball Team has emerged champions of the IHF Women’s Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase after a thrilling 37-30 victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final held in Abidjan.

Among the standout performers in the tournament was Ekiti State’s own Phebe Oluwande, who contributed to Nigeria’s impressive campaign that saw them dominate their opponents with tactical discipline, physical strength, and attacking brilliance.

Led by Coach John Uzor, the Nigerian team maintained a strong performance throughout the tournament, culminating in a decisive win in Thursday’s final.

Ekiti State Handball Coach, Kayode Ayo-Idowu, celebrated the achievement, expressing pride in Phebe’s involvement. He noted that her participation reflects the growing talent pool in Ekiti and expressed optimism about continued strong showings in future competitions.

With the win, the Nigerian U-18 side has qualified for the next phase of the IHF Women’s Trophy, where they will represent Zone 3 at the continental level. The date and venue for the next stage are yet to be announced.
