Coach Doherty launches Rhema Goalkeeper Academy to revolutionize goalkeeping in Ekiti and beyond
In a pioneering move set to elevate the standard of goalkeeping in southwestern Nigeria, Coach Doherty Ajumobi Adebayo has officially launched the Rhema Goalkeeper Academy, a groundbreaking initiative designed to hone the skills of aspiring shot-stoppers in the region. This new academy, the first of its kind in southwestern Nigeria, represents Adebayo’s long-held dream to offer specialized, top-tier training that will equip goalkeepers with the technical precision and mental resilience needed to excel at the highest levels of the game.

The academy’s launch event, which took place at the Ball N Ball Arena in Adehun, Ado-Ekiti, attracted a distinguished gathering of dignitaries from various sectors of Nigerian football and sports journalism. Among the key attendees were Qozeem Oladapo, Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), and Victor, CEO of Vicolas, as well as Akintomiwa Bolarinwa, a journalist from Sportive and SWAN Ekiti State Welfare Officer. The gathering also included Former Ekiti United Welfare Officer Agbeni Tolani, Ekiti Queen Medical (popularly known as Olowo), several staff members of Ekiti United, and coaches from local football clubs.

The occasion saw the unveiling of the academy’s dedicated trainers, who bring a wealth of experience to the project, and the announcement of its first cohort of trainees—marking the start of what is expected to be a game-changing venture in Nigerian football.

Coach Adebayo emphasized that the Rhema Goalkeeper Academy is designed not only to develop technical skills but also to instill the mental fortitude required to thrive in competitive football environments. With the growing demand for elite goalkeeping talent in Nigerian football, this academy promises to serve as a catalyst for producing world-class goalkeepers who can compete both locally and internationally.
At the event a minute silence was observed in honour of Toyin Babatunfe, Olukismet FC Medical Officer, who is also the former Medical Officer of Ekiti United FC.
As the academy opens its doors to promising goalkeepers across the region, Coach Adebayo is eager to extend an invitation to all aspiring shot-stoppers to be part of this historic opportunity.
