Excerpts from the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (Ekiti Chapter) meeting.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Ekiti State Chapter had its Congress on Saturday, 19th October, 2024. @ the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti.
Here are Excerpts from the meeting.
Elections
The SWAN state elections will take place soon. ( The initial date had to be changed due to NUJ Press Week and Governor Oyebanji’s Second Anniversary Activities.)
A new date will be picked soon by SWANECO and all members were enjoined to make themselves available.
December Programme
This year’s SWAN Competition may likely take place in Osi Ekiti, as the annual sponsor is now the Traditional Ruler of the town. SWAN is considering moving this year’s Competition to the town as a mark of Honour to MRM, Oba Steve Alabi.
Unity among Members, Response to activities
Members are enjoined to be United as one entity and to always respond positively to Association’s activities.
National Registration
National Registration for 2025 will begin in November 2024 and end in Jan 2025, to ensure early printing of ID Cards.
Partnerships
SWAN Ekiti is partnering organisers of Board Games and Ultimate League Competition.
These arrangements are to improve SWAN’s popularity and visibility in the State, but with minimal cost to the organisers.
Monthly Due
In a bid to improve the Association’s revenue base, members were enjoined to embrace the idea of contributing monthly due, which can be relied upon to augment End-of-year expenses.
(This is expected to begin next year)
National Awards
Members were informed that the National Office is planning to give awards to 60 Nigerians who have contributed to Sports and SWAN development.
Each state of the federation is to present one person.
Sports Associations
Following the recent Inauguration of Sports Associations Chairmen by Gov Oyebanji, the Chairmen will soon inaugurate their members.
To this end, SWAN is to submit a list of its members who will then be assigned to one sport each as Media Officer.
Courtesy Visits
The SWAN Executive Committee and other interested members will pay courtesy visits to the State Sports Commission and Sports Development Trust Fund as soon as they are officially inaugurated
