In Ekiti State, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) noted that the government led by His Excellency, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) has kept to its words by giving attention to youth empowerment and engagement through Sports adding that the Sports journalists in the State are not unaware of the various strides of Governor Oyebanji aimed at repositioning Sports including ongoing construction of the first ultra modern indoor Sports Hall, proposed facelift of the Oluyemi Kayode stadium, monthly stipends for budding athletes, timely reward for outstanding athletes , regular approval of Ekiti State participation in National and international events, rebranding of the male and female State football teams, conducive atmosphere for private sponsors of grassroots sports and enhancement of the public private partnership initiative in Sports, among others.
The group urged other key stakeholders to complement the BAO administration’s quest to make Ekiti State rank favourably with other States in the country.
SWAN also identified with some political class and private organizations for the laudable roles they play in complementing government’s Sports development initiatives including Senator Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) ,Commissioner for Finance, Hon Akin Oyebode, Choice International, Olukismet Foundation, Femininuola Foundation, Ekiti Golf Club, Rosani Golf, Erinmope Ekiti among others.
SWAN reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnership with individuals and groups that share lofty vision towards ensuring speedy Sports development in Ekiti State.
It also recalled that it is exactly 30 years since the legendary Ado Ekiti born sprinter, Oluyemi Kayode died in an auto crash in the United States of America and applauded the family members and relations’ efforts at keeping the memories of the former Olympian in the minds of Nigerians especially Ekiti people.
While noting that government can not get everything right at all times, SWAN Ekiti State urged Sports stakeholders not to hesitate to use appropriate platforms to draw the attention of government to salient issues rather than watch in silence and criticize without appropriate actions stressing that government should also endeavor to explore the feedback mechanism in order to genuinely meet the yearnings of Ekiti State Sports stakeholders.
The body of Sports journalists prayed for more development and progress in Ekiti State and Nigeria in general .
