Ekiti U-15 Set for Title Showdown Against Enugu in Abuja
Ekiti State’s U-15 football side has booked a place in the final of the Nigeria School Sport Federation/Nigeria Football Federation School Cup after a commanding run through the weeklong tournament in Abuja.Coached by Femi Kumuyi, the South West representatives racked up 10 points to top their group alongside Enugu, their opponents in Friday’s decisive clash.
Ekiti opened with a statement 3-0 win over hosts FCT before edging Taraba 1-0. A 1-1 draw with Delta showed their grit, while a narrow 1-0 victory against Kaduna sealed their ticket to the final.
Kumuyi credited Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the state’s sports development office led for the backing that powered his side’s charge. “ The governor and his Technical Advisor, Dr Olusola Osetoba have been the backbone of this team,” he said. “We are determined to repay that faith with the trophy.”
The School Cup, in its third edition, is a feeder platform for the Confederation of African Football’s African School Football Championship.
The winner of the boys’ U-15 category will represent Nigeria in the West African Zone finals later this year, where a $30,000 top prize awaits.
With continental football on the line, Ekiti’s youngsters carry both expectation and opportunity into the title clash. Kickoff is set for September 26 at the nation’s capital.
