SWAN COMMENDS EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT OVER EKITI UNITED FC’S NNL RETURN, SUPER FALCONS’ PLAYER FOLASHADE IJAMILUSI’S FEAT, OTHER STATE SPORTS AFFAIRS
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Ekiti State Chapter has commended the Ekiti State Government over the recent acquisition of a slot in the Nigerian National League for the state football team, Ekiti United FC.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti at the weekend, SWAN appreciates the constant commitment exhibited by the State government towards taking sports to the next level.
The body of Sports Journalists notes that the acquisition of the NNL slot was an indication that the government of Governor Biodun Oyebanji understands the desire and aspiration of football lovers in the state.
SWAN also commends the Office of Sports Development, headed by Technical Advisor to the Governor, Dr Olusola Osetoba for its drive and pursuance of lofty ideas geared towards making sports attractive in the state.
The Sports Writers therefore called on all stakeholders to maximize the privilege provided by the State government through the NNL for the male team in addition to the female team, Ekiti Queens in the Nigeria Women Premier League.
The body urged the State government to expedite action on the appointment of competent, experienced and genuinely committed individuals as Chairmen and Board members to manage the two State teams in accordance with the best practices nationwide in order to drive the dream of a brighter future and complement the efforts of the office of the Technical Advisor on Sports Development.
In a similar vein, SWAN has congratulated Ekiti State over the emergence of one of its daughters named Folashade Florence Ijamilusi among the Super Falcons squad that recently won the Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
It expressed hope and optimism that the Sports loving State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji will host, honour and reward the Super Falcons player who plays professional football in China in due course.
Similarly, SWAN urged the State government to consider employment for all the 13 athletes who won medals for Ekiti State at the last National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State as the best way to reward excellence and loyalty to the State in line with precedence.
SWAN equally applauded the multiple infrastructural development courtesy of the State government especially the upgrading of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, construction of hostel accomodation for Sports and construction of ultra modern Indoor Sports Complex all in Ado Ekiti.
The statement concludes that SWAN, on its part, will continue to do its best to promote and project the Sports programmes and policies of the State government through the various media platforms for people to see, feel, understand and appreciate the various strides of government in the sports sector.
