NYG 2024: Ekiti wins 3 silvers in Tennis. Search for Gold continues.
Ekiti State young and promising tennis players were all out on Tuesday for gold medals in both the boys singles and mixed doubles categories but they were faced with much older, tougher and rated opponents at the semi final stages.

Nigeria’s Number 1 Under 14 male tennis player, Seyi Ogunsakin took on Nigeria’s Number 1 Under 16 player, Gbolahan Olawale from Ondo State in the boys singles final as the game ended in favour of the Ondo State boy who won gold while Ekiti boy settled for the silver.
The situation in the mixed doubles event was same as Seyi Ogunsakin combined with Goodnews Aina to face much tougher opposition from Lagos State who also won the gold while Ekiti picked the second silver of the day in tennis.
Earlier on Monday, Gloria Samuel and Goodnews Aina of Ekiti State had won a silver in the girls doubles event after bowing to their Lagos State counterparts at the semi final.
Also on Tuesday, Ekiti clinched a silver in male volleyball after bowing to Oyo State in the final.
Ekiti State had earlier won a silver medal in weightlifting through Damilare Oguntoye in the 49kg boys category while Feranmi Dada won a bronze in scrabble just as Babatola Opetosimi won a bronze in gymnastics.
In athletics, the quartet of Olajesu Ogundare, Abdulwahab Salawudeen, Boluwatife Fayose and Comfort Aribisala won a silver in 4 by 400 metre mixed relay and the male volleyball team from Ekiti State grabbed a silver after losing to Oyo State in the final.
The State representatives will on Wednesday file out against their opponents in different games on Wednesday as the quest for gold continues.
In badminton, Ekiti State representatives will contest in the quarter final of the mixed doubles today with two siblings, Folorunsho Tobi and Folorunsho Toyese facing counterparts from Akwa Ibom State.
In Ayo Olopon, Ekiti State will play in doubles male and female and mixed doubles.
Several other games have been concluded as the National Youth Games will come to a close tomorrow Thursday.
Thus far, Ekiti State has garnered a total of 8 medals comprising 6 silver and 2 bronze.
The host State, Delta is still maintaining the lead on the medals table followed by Edo State and Lagos States.
Going by reports of medal standings as of Tuesday evening, Kwara State, Bayelsa , Ogun and Oyo States also rank among the top 10 States.
