Ekiti State Hosts Rugby Clinic For Schools

The Ekiti State Sports Development Office, led by the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba, on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, held a statewide rugby clinic at 10:00 a.m. for pupils and students from selected primary and secondary schools.

The clinic introduced participants to the basics of rugby and progressed into practical sessions where students, Games Masters, and Games Mistresses engaged in their first hands-on experience with the sport. Participating schools also received rugby balls and other training equipment to support further development.

The programme featured Wuraola Hussain, World Rugby Educator and Rugby Rising Supervisor, as the lead resource person, alongside Coach Latifat Salami, the Ekiti State Rugby Coach.

In her remarks, Dr. Osetoba reaffirmed that the initiative aligns with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and expanded opportunities through sports. She urged participants to take the training seriously, adding that exceptional talents will be supported to represent Ekiti State at national and international levels.

Teachers at the event commended the initiative, noting that sports and education jointly contribute to holistic child development.

Also in attendance were Mr. Ogundele, Acting General Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Commission; Mr. Ayangbemi, Director of Team Sports; Mr. Agbeleye, Director of Organising; Mr Adewumi Adekunle, Director Individual Sports; along with other notable sports administrators.
