Ekiti State Set to Host Rugby Clinic for Schools

The Ekiti State Sports Development Office will hold a rugby clinic for selected primary and secondary schools on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The programme is designed to introduce students and teachers to the fundamentals of rugby and support the state’s plan to expand its sporting opportunities for youths.

Participating institutions include All Souls School, Ado-Ekiti; Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti; Muslim College, Ado-Ekiti; Holy Trinity Primary School; Emmanuel Primary School; and Harding Memorial School, among others.

The initiative follows the recent appointment of Coach Latifat Salami as Ekiti State Rugby Coach. Salami, who was trained and certified by the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, was engaged by the Sports Development Office under the leadership of Dr. Olusola Osetoba. The necessary training equipment has been provided and the Ekiti State Rugby Association already setup to ensure proper structure and continuity for the new sport.

Dr. Osetoba stated that the clinic aligns with the administration’s broader agenda to expand youth opportunities through sports. She noted that the programme supports Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s vision of building youth capacity and advancing pathways for empowerment and employment.

According to her, the clinic marks the state’s first formal step in introducing rugby to young athletes, with the long-term goal of nurturing future rugby professionals from Ekiti.
