Governor Oyebanji, Senator Bamidele and Top Officials Set for 2025 Ikogosi Marathon
Ekiti State is set to host the second edition of the Ikogosi Marathon on November 8, 2025, with more than 5,000 athletes expected to compete from at least seven countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, and China.
The event will take place in Ikogosi, the hometown of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, renowned for its unique warm and cold spring — one of only a few in the world. Runners will compete in male and female categories, with winners taking home ₦2 million, ₦1.5 million, and ₦1 million for first, second, and third place, respectively.
Governor Oyebanji, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Aribasoye, Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, and Secretary to the State Government Dr. Abibat Adubiaro are among the top officials expected to attend or participate in the event, underscoring strong government support for sports and tourism development in the state.
Dr. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor on Sports Development to the Governor, commended the organizers for aligning the marathon with Oyebanji’s vision of youth empowerment through sports. She emphasized that the race will not only promote physical fitness but also highlight Ekiti’s peaceful environment, hospitality, and growing infrastructure.
“The Ikogosi Marathon showcases the beauty and safety of Ekiti, while encouraging global participation in our sporting and tourism initiatives,” Osetoba said.
With international attention turning to Ikogosi, anticipation is building for what promises to be one of Nigeria’s most scenic and competitive marathon events.
