Unstoppable Ekiti Under-12 Boys Demolish Oyo Team, March into Finals with Steeze
In a dazzling display of talent that left Oyo State reeling, Ekiti’s Under-12 boys’ football team lit up the pitch like fireworks on New Year’s Eve, cruising to a 4–0 victory and booking a place in the final of the ongoing Under-12 Basic Education School Sports Competition.
The boys in green didn’t just win—they conquered with flair, hunger, and heart.
The goal-fest began early when Oso Segun broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, finishing a well-crafted build-up with the composure of a seasoned pro. It was the perfect spark for what would become a dominant performance.
Then came the Akanfe Juwon show, who stamped his authority on the game with two quickfire goals in the 60th and 64th minutes. Both strikes were a blend of precision and power, and by the time the scoreboard read 3–0, Oyo’s shoulders had dropped and Ekiti’s confidence soared.
The final nail in the coffin came in the 70th minute, as Bello Abdullahi calmly slotted home to seal the emphatic 4–0 victory—one that sent a clear message to their next opponent: Lagos, beware.
Cheered on by the passionate support of Professor Femi Akinwunmi, Chairman of Ekiti State SUBEB, the team played like boys possessed by purpose. Akinwunmi, present at the stadium, was full of praise and promised financial rewards, charging the boys to stay grounded ahead of their final clash.
“This is what happens when passion meets preparation,” he said, also extending gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his unwavering commitment to grassroots sports—an effort now bearing fruit with national recognition.
Coach Femi Kumuyi, the man behind the tactics, credited the win not just to the players’ brilliance but to the consistent push from the state government, especially Dr. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor to the Governor on Sports Development, whose dedication has been instrumental in reengineering youth sports across Ekiti.
“We’re not done yet,” Kumuyi added. “We’re coming for the trophy.”
With their eyes now fixed on the grand finale against a formidable Lagos team this Thursday, the Ekiti boys have become more than just a squad—they’re a movement.
