Can Ekiti State rise as a dominant force in Nigerian boxing? With a structured plan already in motion, Hon. Israel Adedeji Adesokan, Chairman of the Ekiti State Boxing Association, is taking another bold step by sponsoring four young boxers to compete in the Under-18 South West Games in Lagos.
The competition, set for March 25–29, 2025, will feature seven sports, with boxing as the only combat sport. This sponsorship follows the association’s December 21, 2024, boxing competition—organized in collaboration with the Ekiti State Sports Development Office under Dr. Osetoba—which focused on discovering young athletes. The latest initiative reinforces Adesokan’s commitment to nurturing talent and aligns with Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s vision for sports development.
“This is not just about sending athletes to compete; it’s a strategic move to expose them to bigger stages, build their confidence, and position Ekiti as a rising force in Nigerian boxing,” Bernard Fagbemiro, Media Officer of the Ekiti State Boxing Association and a sports journalist at Midas 90.5 FM Ado-Ekiti, informed Sportive.
The association’s secretary, Deji Olowolafe, echoed his believe, emphasizing that this opportunity would sharpen the boxers’ skills and showcase their potential.
